Yesterday's topic of the Fox journalists brought much commenting... and got me a bit up in arms about the seemingly obvious fact that islam is THE problem in our world. Believe it or not, there are still people trying to question that.

Fortuitously, the great Mark Steyn has weighed in and said with his trademark eloquence what others cannot.

Christians and Muslims are both “people of the book.” But there’s a difference: Christianity started out as a religion of the weak, held by the lowliest in society and advanced by conversion and example, independent of the state. A distinction between religion and temporal power is embedded in its founding narratives. Compare the final words of Jesus to his disciples, on the day of his ascension …

“Ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

… with the final words of Mohammed to his disciples:

“I was ordered to fight all men until they say, ‘There is no god but Allah.’” ]]

How could anyone refute the necessity of it in that case?

But Asma Jehangir, of the Pakistan Human Rights Commission, says "there is simply no doubt… no doubt at all" that Rauf was tortured to persuade him to reveal the information. No torture might have meant no information: and maybe five or more planes brought down. ]]

So, okay... they got the information through "torture." I guess that means it works sometimes, right? In any case, no one would even think of not using such life-saving information, however it was obtained... right?

Well... here ya go.

These are the kind of men I would be proud to go to war with. The pragmatic service mentality that they express is something that used to be common in our country... but is now all too rare. Such is the price of the easy life and no real threat, I suppose.

Anyway, please read this... here's an excerpt that will grab you. It is an interview with two Israeli vets who lost limbs in the war. As far as I'm concerned, these guys are amazing and genuine heroes:

I just love this column. It examines America's relationship with the rest of the world- with emphasis on "why they hate us." It is deliciously ironic that the author, Don Surber, speaks exactly as the vast majority of Americans do... and that is one reason for why the left-leaning world hates us.

Well, now that another crusading, way-far-left judge has stepped in to save us from the evil Bush machine (HERE and HERE), we can all breath a sigh of relief.

Seriously, where would we be without these judges? I, for one, am grateful that they are watching out for my best interests. Oh, sure, a small consequence is that terrorists can plan and plot with impunity... but that is just a detail. The important thing is that my civil liberties remain intact.

Here is another case of a judge who just loves the good guys.

Here is a great and fascinating read... former Bush advisor and speech writer Michael Gerson explains why now, more than ever, our policies in the Middle East have to be clear and consistent.

Mr. Gerson makes many excellent points in this article... all underscored by the fact that he was there on the inside. He tells how President Bush's mindset and policies on the Middle East were shaped by real-world events. I like that concept a whole lot better than the thought of policies being shaped by wishful thinking, etc.

Anyway:

[[ On Tuesday, September 11, 2001, while the president was on the road in Florida, I was working at home on a never-delivered speech announcing a long-forgotten initiative called Communities of Character. Warned by my deputy about the first attack, I headed by car toward the White House, neared the Pentagon and saw a plane in abnormally low descent—so low I could see the windows. Turned around by the police on the highway and sent home, I was finally able to call my evacuated staff at (of all places) the D.C. offices of Chrysler. Then came the first speech to the nation, with too much sentiment, not enough resolve and the president stiff and small.
