What Causes Hornets To Riot?

-
I recently heard a local radio host talking about the intelligence report that Iraq is adding to the jihadi movement. He, like any other halfway intelligent person, was not surprised by that. The analogy he used was a hornet nest. If you are going to destroy it and you poke it- it gets the hornets all riled up. That doesn't mean that you can't destroy it... it just means the hornets are all riled up. Simple logic.

I'll take it a bit further. If you have a nicely landscaped back yard and you enjoy spending time out there, the last thing you are going to tolerate is a hornet nest, right? Why is that? Because if you leave it alone, it will grow and grow and grow... and soon there will be more and more and more of the nests.

Well, the world is that backyard. For far too long, the West has let the nests grow and grow- even after they started stinging us... and our failure to support the exterminators is the real problem. Until and unless the West wakes the hell up, those wasps and hornets are going to keep on buzzing and stinging... and someday, we're all going to go under.

Anyway, enough insect metaphors from me. Here's Jonah Goldberg with a good column on the wasps... except he uses a "bully" analogy.
