Saddam's execution expected Saturday, officials say

BAGHDAD -- Saddam Hussein's execution for his role in the deaths of 148 Shiite men and boys nearly a quarter-century ago is expected to occur by the end of Saturday, Iraqi and U.S. officials say.As of this evening, the deposed dictator was still in American custody at Camp Cropper, a U.S. military base on Baghdad's outskirts, U.S. officials said. U.S. sources said that Hussein will be handed over to Iraqi authorities shortly before his execution to minimize security risks.
