National Holiday Alert - II

-
We have reached another very special day. It is the 22nd birthday of my eldest child.

No pictures or fanfare for this one- they are not necessary (besides, she would most likely kill me for it). I will just try to briefly convey who and what she is.

Jessica Lynette grew up a military brat- moving all over the place throughout her life. Not only did this not bother her, it seems to have given her powers above and beyond those of mere mortals. She is well-adjusted and confident, comfortable with most anyone, and seldom shy to speak her mind.

Wherever we went, Jessica soon took charge of the neighborhood kids and organized them into efficient playing units. When quarrels and fights started, Jessica was there to marshal the peace. The others always respected her. This is probably because of her giant brain.

Jessica is one of the smartest people I have ever met... and that is saying something! Throughout school, she was always in "gifted" programs- and excelled even in those. Never snobbish about her intellect, Jessica has always befriended anyone and everyone who needs it. Her kindness is legendary in these parts.

Now we can add beauty to her intelligence and kindness. Jessica is gorgeous... and beyond the attractive outer self, her very pretty eyes and striking features reflect the incredible beauty that is inside her heart. There is something about her that is most unique- and everyone who meets her notices that.

One final thing to mention is Jessica's indominable work ethic. This girl does what needs doing! She is currently working nearly full time and carrying a full load at college. She is not one bit afraid of tackling whatever gets in her way.

Once she settles comfortably into adulthood... oh, who am I kidding? She will NEVER grow up... and thank God for that! She has the heart of a poet, the vision of an artist, the wit and humor of a comedian, and the brain of a philosopher... but, mostly, she has the soul of a child, and she sees the world in a way that most of us never can.

TJ and I were only 18 and 19, respectively, when Jessica was born... so we kind of grew up along with her. I know that I learned a whole lot from this girl... and I still am learning.

Remember how I told you that I didn't do the hero worship thing easily (the Ollie North thing)? Well, this girl is a hero to me, and every single year she grows moreso in my estimation.

Happy birthday, Sis... I could not be more proud of you!!

Love, Pop
