You Call That Supporting The Troops?

-
Here's a very hard hitting piece by Bing West in the Washington Post. He asks the question, "Why are alleged abuses of enemy personnel more important to the media than the heroism that is taking place almost daily?"

Using Fallujah as the most pertinent example, the author outlines the outrageous and frustrating fact that the media is definitely out to get our troops.

[[ Hundreds of gripping stories of valor emerged that would have been publicized in World War II. Although there are far more heroes than louts in the ranks, stories of the abuses at Abu Ghraib and now at Fallujah vastly outnumber stories of heroism and sacrifice.

Not to take anything away from The Greatest Generation, but the behavior of our soldiers today will stand scrutiny when compared to the performance of those in any past war. The focus of the press on abuse is not due to any relaxation in military discipline or social mores. Why was valor considered front-page news in 1945 and abuse considered front-page news in 2005?
]]

I'll tell you why: because President Bush was not alive in 1945... and also because, in 1945, the behavior of many on the left and in the media would have been seen for the sedition that it is. More to the point, the media in 1945 still reflected the views and attitudes of the citizens of the country, considered themselves good Americans, and actually wanted America to win the war. Now they are nothing but treasonous elitists who are bent on the destruction of our traditional way of living in this country.

Anyway, you should read the whole thing... it is pretty good stuff.
