From The "Get Your Story Straight" Files

-
Everyone loves a good sitcom... remember the great fun of watching Lucy and Ricky, and how every week there was some madcap misunderstanding which led to zany hilarity?

Here's a modern version of it:

[[ There was no Clinton pillow talk over the former first couple's split on the Dubai port deal - because the ex-president's lips were sealed.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton revealed yesterday that her husband never confided in her that he was advising Dubai leaders on how to ease opposition to the deal in Congress - where she's been one of its loudest critics.

The surprising turn came yesterday when the senator was asked if her husband had ever mentioned that he was helping officials in charge of the state-owned Dubai Ports World.

She said he hadn't - then quickly tried to take back the admission, saying, "That's . . . I mean, as far as I know, he supports my position and has said so publicly."

Bill Clinton has hailed Dubai as "a good ally to America [that is] trying to build a new Middle East, they really are" - all while agreeing that congressional critics have a legitimate gripe.

The former first lady has been among the most vocal congressional bashers of the Bush administration-backed $6.8 billion sale, a deal that includes commercial operations at New York's port and five other major U.S. harbors.

And she's the co-author of legislation that aims to ban the sale of firms that operate U.S. ports to companies owned by foreign governments.

"The president - my husband - supports that position," she insisted. "It is a position that is rooted in legitimate concerns about security and whether or not our country should be turning over critical infrastructure like our ports to any foreign government-owned entity."

But news reports this week seem to show her husband singing a decidedly different tune in private talks with United Arab Emirates leaders two weeks ago - persuading them to go along with a 45-day investigation into the sale to appease congress.

Not quite, says Bill Clinton's spokesman, Jay Carson.

"He took one phone call from them, told them he didn't know the details of the deal," Carson said. "He's fully in line with Sen. Clinton's legislation on this."

Bill Clinton, whose aides insist that he agrees with his wife in preferring that no U.S. port be controlled by companies owned by foreign governments, has said, "I have a very high opinion of the UAE and Dubai, in particular."

And the UAE sure likes him. It shelled out a total of $600,000 for him to give speeches there in 2002 and 2005. And Dubai chipped in $1 million to the Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, Ark.

Meanwhile yesterday, the head of Israel's largest shipping firm, Zim Integrated Shipping Services, sent Sen. Clinton a letter strongly backing the Dubai port deal.

Zim officials noted that Dubai has top-notch security and that it has routinely worked with Israeli companies - despite the fact that the UAE formally subscribes to an Arab boycott of Israel. ]]

I admit that the title of the article was the main reason I read it. I also loved the Freudian (?) slip she makes by calling Mr. Bill "The President"... then corrects it immediately. What the heck is up with that??

Hillary On Bubba: Dubai-Ai-Ai

One can only imagine the uproar if this were a Conservative politician involved.
