Let Israel Win

-
Greetings, all. I am back from the hinterlands... and ready again to offer my small part to the great cause.

What better place to start than with the fantastic Charles Krauthammer? He is a man who always sees the target and calmly shoots straight into it. Today, his sights are set firmly on the reaction of the world to Israel's national defense actions.

[[ What other country, when attacked in an unprovoked aggression across a recognized international frontier, is then put on a countdown clock by the world and given a limited time window in which to fight back, regardless of whether it has restored its own security?

What other country sustains 1,500 indiscriminate rocket attacks into its cities - every one designed to kill, maim and terrorize civilians - and is then vilified by the world when it tries to destroy the enemy's infrastructure and strongholds with precision-guided munitions that sometimes have the unintended but unavoidable consequence of collateral civilian death and suffering?

Hearing the world pass judgment on the Israel-Hezbollah war as it unfolds is to live in an Orwellian moral universe. With a few significant exceptions (the leadership of the United States, Britain, Australia, Canada and a very few others), the world - governments, the media, UN bureaucrats - has completely lost its moral bearings.

The word that obviates all thinking and magically inverts victim into aggressor is "disproportionate," as in the universally decried "disproportionate Israeli response."

When the United States was attacked at Pearl Harbor, it did not respond with a parallel "proportionate" attack on a Japanese naval base. It launched a four-year campaign that killed millions of Japanese, reduced Tokyo, Hiroshima and Nagasaki to cinders, and turned the Japanese home islands to rubble and ruin. Disproportionate? No.
]]

That is the crux of it. Not just for the Israel/Hezbollah war, but in virtually all things. The world- or much of it- has, indeed, lost its moral bearings. Taken in whole, it is stunning to see world reactions to issues. Virtually ignoring muslim atrocities everywhere- from Somalia to Thailand to the Phillipines- the world has plenty of time to attack the United States and Israel as both of those countries struggle to eradicate the murderous vermin that want to kill us all. This is not to mention the various and nefarious actions of our "allies" in the oil-for-food scandals... or the killing of civiians by U.N. troops in Africa. All in all, the popular stance is definitely to stand up to the "bullies" in America and Israel.

This is surreal.

I am struck with a vision... picture a town in the wilderness... the people there are being routinely attacked by vicious monsters that are trying very hard to destroy the whole town. In fact, other than a few transparent disguises, the monsters are not shy about their intentions-- openly calling for the complete and total destruction of the town. The only thing stopping them from it are a few large men with lots of guns. The men are very good at monster killing... and they have for years managed to keep much of the town safe. The problem lately is, every time the men engage the monsters, the protected townspeople pull at their sleeves to stop them from shooting... crying to them that they are being unfair to the monsters... that the men must try to talk to the monsters... to understand them (nevermind the fact that the men do understand the monsters only too well).

Anyway, please read it all.

Ditto here, heciii & saj. The only problem is that Brit doesn't have Charles on enough; sadly it seems that he gives more air time to those worthless NPR liberals, Mara and Juan. :-(
Nevertheless, another excellent and truthful editorial from Mr. Krauthammer.
