In Defense Of The Defense Chief

Like him or not, you just can't argue that Donald Rumsfeld has been in charge. He is a very intelligent, articulate man who brought a strong sense of leadership to the position of Defense Secretary. He came in trying to reform the military- to bring it into the new century. This was vitally necessary in order to face the new battlefields of today.
Anyway, now that a few disgruntled retired generals are taking pot-shots at Rummy, the media is drooling and slurping it up like a pack of starved dogs. While this is amusing in its own way, it does tend to lead the uninformed to believe that some of this crap is actually true. It is also extremely bad for the nation in a time of war... and is yet another example of us giving our enemies more ammunition against us.
Here's a great op-ed from retired Marine General Michael DeLong- who has firsthand knowledge of Mr. Rumsfeld's style. I'm surprised to find this in the ny times...
A General Misunderstanding
Also, here's the ultimate source on the subject, General Myers:

Now... take what these gentlemen say to heart... because they both are very much qualified to speak on this matter.
Go, Rummy!

Pomoze Bog.
Yeah, Gunny, I agree. Rummy is awesome. Bush has shown the same gift that Reagan had of picking outstanding advisors and "Git 'er done" Cabinet members.
The true test of greatness in a President is whether he can admit to himself his own shortcomings and show sufficient humility in choosing advisors who will make up for them. Bush, like Reagan, has shown his greatness in this way.
Contrast this with Clintoon, who chose his advisors based upon political expediency and PC litmus tests (and, probably, their cup sizes...). Compare the successes and longevity of the Bush Cabinet with that of Clintoon and you'll see what I mean. Compared with Bush, Clintoon was a very small, even tawdry man, indeed.
Tsar, out.
