Projection - What A Concept!

-
Michael Reagan has a great column dealing with the psychological ramifications of Cindy Sheehan's "struggle." In it, Mr. Reagan supposes that she is "projecting" onto President Bush her inner feelings that should be pointed at her own son. It is a thoughtful piece on a topic that I and others have also speculated about.

Where would the world be without armchair psychologists?

[[ The more I listen to Cindy Sheehan and consider her past actions and her past words, it occurs to me she has always been a liberal, she’s always been anti-military, and she’s always been anti-Republican. It appears that she raised Casey in such an environment, yet despite that what does he do? He not only joins the military engaged in a war she bitterly opposes, but to add insult to injury when his enlistment runs out, he re-enlists although he knew that by so doing it meant he would be sent to Iraq where a war his mother despises is being fought.

Think about that. What Casey did was to reject not by words but by deeds his mother’s most closely-held beliefs.

Then, to make matter worse in her eyes, this son volunteers to go on a dangerous mission even his superiors warned him against, and dies as a result. Casey Sheehan's sergeant asked for volunteers. Sheehan had just returned from Mass. After Sheehan volunteered once, the sergeant asked Sheehan again if he wanted to go on the mission. According to many reports (and according to his own mother) Casey responded, "Where my chief goes, I go."

He went, and it cost him his life. You can almost hear her saying to his spirit, “How dare you spurn me and turn your back on me? How dare you go join the military, and then how dare you volunteer to fight against the innocent Iraqi freedom fighters and get yourself killed?”
]]

Yep... I could hear here saying that to her son... I really could. Her words have made it clear that she thinks America is the greatest evil in the world, and always has been.

I first commented on this blog when I heard about Cindy Sheehan. Then, I thought her an grieving mom, who went a bit over the top in accusing the President of murdering her son. After I came to learn more about Cindy Sheehan, I think she is a grieving mom upset that her child rejected her, and she'll never get a chance to reconcile that. Otherwise, I completely reject her communist views.

I think you're close to the truth with that. Sad that it has come to this when she could have reconciled with Casey while he was alive. Then at least she would have some measure of peace.

SHe doesn't need grief counselors, she has plenty of grief encouragers, riding her like a gravy train to the promised land of socialism.

Yes, I agree with that. There will never be any closure for her, because you can't apologize to a dead man. I also think this is the source of her self-delusional comments that "Casey would tell me 'Good job, Mom,' when I meet him in heaven" or somesuch.

Aside from that, though, this still doesn't obscure the fact that she is a 60s dinosaur who can't get over that in most ways, her side lost and continues to lose.
