Not Everyone Is Cut Out...

-
...for this line of work. That's something we tell our Officers all the time... especially the ones who apply for the SRT (SWAT) positions. In fact, we work very hard during their basic academy to find out which ones will not be able to handle pressure- because, as I frequently remind them- it would not be so good, right in the middle of a firefight, to find out that you can't take pressure.

Apparently, the New Orleans Police Department has found lots of their Officers who couldn't take it... at least 200 of them.

This being the New (Old) York Times, the article of course finds ways to blame President Bush and others... but, it is surprisingly candid in its assessment of things. One quote from a police official puts it well:

[[ Mr. Riley said some of the officers who left the force "couldn't handle the pressure" and were "certainly not the people we need in this department." ]]

It's a tough one to stomach, but here's the LINK.

Yes, SAJ, but the NYCPD had their full infrastructure intact. Almost all of their Command and Control structure was in place and functional. The Big Sleazy went back into the Stone Age in a few hours, and the leaders were too busy cleaning up the puddles of urine under their office chairs to take firm control and ask for help.

Even now, Babs is fighting to prevent Federal "interference" in LA.

If I were the NOPD, the first person I'd arrest for putting folks in danger is their own damned mayor.
