To start us off on the right foot, here is an op-ed piece from the Arab News gloating over the Katrina mess:

Britain Has No Lessons to Learn From America

LONDON, 6 September 2005 — So this then is the proud nation of the United States of America which binds all citizens, enthuses, dazzles, entices and instructs them to commit to the greatest country in the world, land of the free and endless opportunity and all that jazz.

It gets better, believe me. Read on…

Another opinion (and remember what Dirty Harry said about those…) from the Arab News, lamenting that Arabs are being picked on in the US. Obviously, they don’t like the fact that we uncover their mujahadeen so effectively…

The Disgrace of Racial Profiling

“In these politically correct times, however, there are laws on the books designed to protect you (the Orwellian edge of the Patriot Act notwithstanding) against discrimination based on your race, religion, skin color, nationality, accent and the way you, well, just look, say, like a “shifty eyed, swarthy Middle Easterner.”

Here is an article from a very balanced and well-respected journal on the possibility that Iraq may indeed fall apart, and for some very good reasons. This is a great article, folks---read and ponder.

Can Democracy Stop Terrorism?

Summary: The Bush administration contends that the push for democracy in the Muslim world will improve U.S. security. But this premise is faulty: there is no evidence that democracy reduces terrorism. Indeed, a democratic Middle East would probably result in Islamist governments unwilling to cooperate with Washington.

On the lighter side…

Lovelorn Pakistani man arrested for bomb hoax against US Consulate in Pakistan

Mohammed Imran, 27, was arrested on Sunday after an Aug. 29 call he made to the US Embassy in the capital Islamabad claiming two men were planning an attack on the consulate, said Baharuddin Babar, a Karachi police official….They are relatives of a 23-year-old woman Imran loved and they had stopped him from meeting or speaking with her, Babar said.

Here is a piece showing why continuing US presence in Afghanistan is essential:

Here are the latest releases from Hamas Studio Productions; apparently they grossed well this weekend in Palestine, thus making Hollywood jealous. In the first one, I especially like the frame where Bush’s head is split-screened with the head of the Terminator robot. For that bit of creativity, this one gets a Thumb’s-Up.

And this one, which should be titled “A Day (the Last) in the Life of Abu Omar, Martyr for Islam,” gives us the last statements of this intrepid warrior, coupled with video clips of his “heroic” act and his unlamented demise. Boring film, though, in spite of action and background music. This one gets a Thumb’s-Down.
