Sheep, Wolves, and Sheepdogs

Bill Whittle has done it again. This essay, called Tribes (LINK), is probably his best- and that is saying a lot. It is made better in that he invokes LtCol Dave Grossman's "The Bulletproof Mind"- which I've been through and greatly admire.
It is far too sweeping to fairly excerpt it. Please take the time (and it will take a while) to read this. It puts into words what many of us have felt for some time.

Great article, and the first LONG post to hold my interest. Only problem; he has a problem with the comments section. You get an error, trying to post a comment.
But, thanks for recommending this read! I had never thought about 'tribes', when referring to the difference in people- but I'm certainly of the GREY TRIBE. :)
I tried leaving a comment too and couldn't.
I did too!
Outstanding, Tsar! I agree with that- and now I don't have to fear the day when I can't be a sheepdog anymore... because I can step into a brown role, instead of a sheep!
"now I don't have to fear the day when I can't be a sheepdog anymore... because I can step into a brown role, instead of a sheep!"
KMG, exactly.
I always remember the example of Gen. Winfield Scott, an old Indian fighter who was called out of retirement in the earliest, chaotic days of the Civil War. He was old and obese, and had never intended to get into a uniform again after retirement.
Yet when Lincoln called, he responded. And, far from being useless baggage, he came up with what scoffers called his "Anaconda Plan": a naval blockade of the Southern coast and the major rivers in same which would strangle the economy and the supply lines of the Confederacy.
And he was right. When the scoffers finally wised up, they adopted the Anaconda Plan (now a name of honor) wholecloth. And it worked.
So, sheepdogs even in retirement are still "reserve sheepdogs" who are even more capable than the average Brown. I suppose you could say that they are the Leadership Caste of the Newcastle Brown Tribe.
Pomoze Bog, and thanks for your sheepdog service in the Corps and in your law-enforcement duties.
Tsar Lazar
