Beating Free Speech (To Death)

-
Here is an article discussing how islam tramples anyone who tries to defame it. In case you didn't know this, here is why the liberals feel so free to attack any and all religions besides islam.

[[ On Thursday, April 12, a gang of Somali thugs on a downtown Oslo street attacked Kadra, a Somali woman who now lives in Norway, and beat her senseless, breaking several of her ribs. They were enraged at her for her recent statement that the Qur’an’s views of women needed reevaluation. They also might have been angry because of her role in revealing the widespread support among imams in Norway for female genital mutilation; Kadra exposed their support for this horrific procedure using a hidden camera in a 2000 documentary for Norwegian television.

As they beat her, Kadra’s attackers shouted Allahu akbar – Allah is great – and recited verses from the Qur’an. “I was terrified,” she said. “While I lay on the pavement they kicked me and screamed that I had trampled on the Koran.”

The following Tuesday, two men in Mississauga, Ontario, attacked journalist Jawaad Faizi, who writes for the Pakistan Post, a newspaper based in Mississauga. The attackers told Faizi to stop “writing against Islam,” and particularly to stop criticizing an Islamic organization, Idara Minhaj-ul-Quran, and its leader, a Muslim cleric named Allama Tahir-Ul-Qadri
. ]]

Beating Freedom Of Speech

This is wonderful. "I'll kill you for saying islam promotes killing!" What a great "religious" philosophy...

Am I hateful for bringing this up? Should we not talk about these things?

We're not in trouble at all, are we?

Common Sense Prevails!

-
At least in a small part of the world.

Please note that it is "surprising" that these politicians would do the right thing.

[[ In a surprise move, a House panel voted today to repeal a state law that forbids the carrying of handguns on property and buildings owned by state, county and city governments — including parks and playgrounds.

"I think the recent Virginia disaster — or catastrophe or nightmare or whatever you want to call it — has woken up a lot of people to the need for having guns available to law-abiding citizens," said Rep. Frank Niceley, R-Strawberry Plains. "I hope that is what this vote reflects."

Signs Of Intelligence

-

The Wonderful And Magical "Gun-Free Zones"

-
For the next part of our discussion of guns, we'll start with a picture:

Lovely, isn't it? Bold and commanding! Enough to get the attention of anyone who would even think of bringing a gun into the area, right?

Here's another one, this time a bit more ambitious:

Wow! No guns OR Drugs allowed there! Now THAT'S taking action against crime! If I were a gun-totin' drug dealer, I'd definitely think twice before crossing that line!

Still, the above two examples are rather harsh, don't you think? Perhaps something a bit more... human? Something that appeals to the criminal's sense of decency and fair-play...

That was nice, wasn't it? "I will not hurt you, please don't hurt me." I love it! Exactly half of that is true and will happen.

Now, here is what all these signs should say, since it is the reality of the situation.

Finally, here is something that is definitely truth in advertising:

-
Have a gun-a-licious day!
-

Hoplophobic Gun-Haters

-
Any article that begins with words from Colonel Jeff Cooper will get my full attention.

This piece on gun hate has an introductory section on Hoplophobia, which is a term that Colonel Cooper coined to describe an irrational and morbid fear of guns. He said that "the most common manifestation of hoplophobia is the idea that instruments possess a will of their own, apart from that of their user."

I remember reading this a long time ago, and although it made me laugh (because it's damn funny), it also made me think long and hard... because it's true.

I do love this excerpt:

[[ Hoplophobes are dangerous. They should not be involved in setting public policy.

Hoplophobes are victims. They are sick and need help.

Hoplophobes deserve sympathy. It's not their fault they are afflicted.

Hoplophobes should seek treatment. Help shoot for a cure.
]]

Get it? "Shoot for a cure"???

Anyway, here's the whole thing.

Gun-Hate

-

To Carry Or Not To Carry...

-
...that is the question, and it should be something we all decide for ourselves.

To continue with our "all guns, all the time" theme, we will now discuss the concealed carry laws in America.

Some people (we'll call them "The Confused") believe that American citizens should have no right to carry a gun in public. These fascists... er... people have different reasons for believing such a thing, but it all comes down to the same thing: taking away the rights of American citizens.

Others (we'll call them "The Sane and Rational") know that when only bad people have guns, we are all in trouble. The Sane and Rational also know that letting the government (or anyone else) take away our inherent rights is the surest path to tyranny.

Anyway, one of the things that The Confused often say is that it would be very frightening if "everyone" was "running around" with guns. The instinctive way to respond to something this patently ridiculous would be to simply laugh... but let us go another way.

First, the fact that permits are available does not mean that everyone will choose to carry a gun. Based on figures from various states, usually only about 1% to 4% of a state's population will choose to obtain a permit. Here's more:

The Wild West!?

Next, it is far past the time that we should be worrying about good people having guns. The fact is that the bad guys will continue to do their thing, regardless of any little feel-good laws the liberals manage to enact. Even though The Confused worry about accidents and wrongful shootings, etc., the facts do not back up this hysteria.

Can Citizens Use Guns Competently?

Easy math: Bad guys with guns is the constant (X), good guys with guns is the variable (Y=with - Z=without). So: when Y, then X is dead, and when Z, then Z is dead. Now, why would anyone want anything but Y?

Make no mistake about it: X IS the constant... and until the liberals come up with ways to take away the guns from the bad guys, then ANY attempt to disarm the good guys is WRONG, WRONG, and WRONG.

Onward... There are three kinds of permit states: no-issue, may-issue, shall-issue.

In "no-issue," you can't get a license.

In "may-issue", they'll give you one if they want to.

In "shall-issue", you meet the requirements, you get a permit to carry a gun.

The crime rate over the last couple of years has dropped the fastest in shall-issue states. It has dropped the slowest in the no-issue states; and in may-issue states, it has dropped somewhere in-between.

When the state goes from may to shall the crime rate goes down faster.

People that carry guns are the deterrent to crime.

Here are the three catagories of carry laws and the states that fall under each.

SHALL-ISSUE:

Alaska (unrestricted), Arizona, Arkansas, Alabama, Connecticut, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont (unrestricted), Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

Alaska is both a "shall-issue" and an "unrestricted" state. Alaska does not require a permit for any law-abiding individual to carry a handgun, either openly or concealed, within the state's borders. However, the state continues to issue permits to any of its residents who meet the state's issuance criteria, which can be helpful for Alaskans traveling to other states.

In Vermont, no permit is required to carry a firearm. Residents and nonresidents alike may carry a firearm open or concealed without permission from the state.

The status of Alabama, Connecticut and Iowa is in some dispute among gun rights activists. The laws of all three states, strictly speaking, would place them in the "may-issue" category, as permit issue is to some degree discretionary. However, the policies of these states are effectively shall-issue. Also: as of 2006 all Alabama county sheriffs issue permits to almost all qualified applicants, making it shall-issue in practice.

MAY-ISSUE:

California, New York, Delaware, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Rhode Island.

In the United States of America, for a may-issue gun law, authorities (usually the local police) have broad discretion as whether to issue a concealed carry permit to a given individual. Some may-issue states are, for all practical purposes, no-issue. Other may-issue states have policies that vary radically from one political subdivision to another.

States such as California and New York give wide latitude to the county authorities in issuing permits.

In New York City, a concealed weapons permit is theoretically possible to get but in reality it takes a large degree of money, political influence, and/or celebrity to get one. Examples of current and past New York City permit holders would be Howard Stern, Ronald Lauder, Edgar Bronfman Sr., Donald Trump, William F. Buckley Jr., Joan Rivers, and Arthur Sulzberger.

NO-ISSUE:

As of March 2006 in the United States, only Illinois, Wisconsin, and Washington, D.C. (where handguns are illegal) are no-issue jurisdictions.

As you can see, there are only a few states where Americans' rights are being seriously abused and taken away. That is the good news.

The bad news, though, is that the hysterical left will continue to use feelings and scare tactics to sway good people who do not know any better. Face it, guns are scary to people who have no knowledge or experience with them. Plus, the left has managed to use its accomplices in hollywood and the media to perpetuate all the lame old stereotypes and lies.

That is where we come in. It is our firm duty to educate others on the TRUTH of it... and try to break through the fears and feelings that are used as the stock and trade of our socialist/fascist leaning opponents.

An unarmed and sheepish citizenry is EXACTLY what the predators want... and it is also the first major step to tyranny.

-

To Believe In Gun Control...

-
We'll start Gun-Day with a lengthy, but heartfelt, list of "you have to believes." You may have seem some or all of these, but it never hurts to refresh on the good stuff.

A list of some of the things that you have to believe if you believe in gun control:

You have to believe that the more helpless you are, the safer you are from criminals.

You have to believe that ordinary people, ordinary people in the presence of a gun turn into slaughtering blood-thirsty butchers and they resort to normal ordinary behavior as soon as the gun is removed.

If you believe in gun control you have to believe that the people have a right to peaceably assemble, you believe in the right of the people to be secure in their homes, you believe in the right of people to pray and speak, but you do not believe in the right of the people to keep and bear arms.

That it is reasonable for California to have a minimum 2 year sentence for possessing but not using an assault rifle, and reasonable for California to have a 6 month minimum sentence for raping a female police officer.

That it is reasonable to jail people for carrying but not using guns, but outrageous to jail people for possessing marijuana.

That minimum sentences violate civil rights, unless it's for possessing a gun.

That door-to-door searches for drugs are a gross violation of civil rights and a sign of fascism, but door-to-door searches for guns are a reasonable solution to the "gun problem."

That the first amendment absolutely allows child pornography and threats to kill cops, but doesn't apply to manuals on gun repair.

That free speech entitles one to own newspapers, transmitters, computers, and typewriters, but self defense only justifies bare hands.

That with the above, a 90 lb woman attacked by a 300 lb rapist and his 300 lb buddy, has the "right" to kill them in self defense, provided she uses her bare hands.

That gun safety courses in school only encourage kids to commit violence, but sex education in school doesn't encourage kids to have sex.

That the ready availability of guns today, with only a few government forms, waiting periods, checks, infringements, ID, and fingerprinting, is responsible for all the school shootings, compared to the lack of school shootings in the 1950's and 1960's, which was caused by the awkward availability of guns at any hardware store, gas station, and by mail order.

That we must get rid of guns because a deranged lunatic may go on a shooting spree at any time, and anyone who owns a gun out of fear of such an lunatic is paranoid.
That statistics showing high murder rates justify gun control, and statistics that show increasing murder rates after gun control are "just statistics."

That Massachusetts is safer with bans on guns, which is why Teddy Kennedy has machinegun toting guards.

That most people can't be trusted, so we should have laws against guns, which most people will abide by, because they can be trusted.

That a woman raped and strangled with her panties is morally superior to a woman with a smoking gun and a dead rapist at her feet.

That the right of online child pornographers to exist cannot be questioned because it is a constitutionally protected extension of the Bill of Rights, and the claim that handguns are for self defense is merely an excuse, and not really protected by the Bill of Rights.

That the ACLU is good because it uncompromisingly defends certain parts of the Constitution, and the NRA is bad, because it defends other parts of the Constitution.

That 1 firearm owner in 10,000 will commit an act of violence in his or her lifetime, and this is far more frightening than the 25% of drivers who will cause a serious or fatal accident.

That you should rely on police in lieu of your gun, just as you should rely on a dentist in lieu of your toothbrush.

That when someone dies because they couldn't get a drug the government won't approve, it's tragic, but when someone dies because they couldn't defend themselves with a gun the government won't approve, that's just life.

That a criminal is somehow more of a threat to a cop than to a regular person, so police need guns and regular citizens don't.

That one has the moral obligation to make a citizen's arrest when one sees a felony in progress, and that it should be accomplished by yelling at the perpetrator, "Stop! Or I'll yell 'stop' again!" rather than by drawing a weapon.

That intelligent people should support gun control because they realize they are too stupid to be trusted with guns.

That outlawing the carrying of guns will stop people from doing so, just as lowering the speed limit stops reckless driving.

That we should deal with the problem of criminals using illegal weapons by taking lawful weapons away from honest people.

That guns cause crime, just like matches cause arson.

That guns cause crime, just like women cause prostitution.

That guns cause crime, just like men cause rape.

That a bank guard can protect money with a gun, but you cannot protect your children with one.

That one should be more afraid of one's spouse blowing a gasket and shooting the children, than of those children being run over by a hormone-driven teenager in a car.

That people are too stupid to handle guns, but are intelligent enough to vote.

That it's safer to do nothing than resist with a gun, which is why the military wins so many wars by not fighting.

That suggesting teachers be armed is an outrageous suggestion for a "civilized" society, which is why the Swiss and Israelis do it.

That making it harder and harder for even cops to have guns on school property will somehow make it harder for lunatics to kill the utterly helpless students.

That it's safer with less guns, which is why lunatics shoot up schools instead of gun shows or police stations.

That guns cause crime, which is why there was no rape or murder in the Dark Ages.
That just like the anti-nuclear weapons movement used to believe, if the potential victims disarm, the oppressors will take pity on them and give up their weapons in remorse.

That one should judge all gun owners by the acts of a few criminals, just like one should judge all blacks by the acts of a few inner-city crack dealers.

That making it harder to get firearms legally will reduce their illegal use, just like making it harder to get a prescription will cut down on the illicit drug trade.

That you don't need a gun, therefore no one needs one.

That stupidity can be cured by legislation.

That with nationwide gun control, the entire nation can be as safe as NYC, LA and Chicago.

That since a gun isn't 100% effective for self defense, you should get rid of it, along with your first aid kit and fire extinguisher, since they aren't 100% effective, either.

That if Chicago were to legalize firearms, it would have shootouts in the streets, which never happens now.

That we should ban guns because people have a "right to feel safe," but the right to feel safe by owning firearms for defense is not valid.

That the few people who can't use martial arts or other non-lethal means of self-defense--the young, the old, the infirm, the disabled, the weak, the small, and the pregnant--are simply the necessary sacrifice we must make to criminals to avoid the risks of letting people be armed.

That the dangers of guns outweigh their recreational uses, unlike alcohol and motorcycles.

That telling a murderer he'll go to jail for carrying a gun will make him think twice.

That the only way to end gun violence is to ban guns, just like the only way to end medical malpractice is to ban doctors.

That most people are seething cauldrons of potential violence who cannot be trusted with a gun, but most people are so decent that there is no need to carry a weapon for defense.

That if an a group of anti-gun protesters feels threatened, they should ask police with guns to protect them while they tell everyone how worthless guns are for protection.

That the typical town only needs one law enforcement officer per 1000 population, because most people are law abiding, but that it's dangerous to let citizens carry weapons because most people are criminal.

That all gun owners are tobacco-chawin', beer-swillin', racist, redneck bubbas.
That gun control will "keep guns out of the wrong hands," meaning law-abiding Americans' hands.

That banning guns works, which is why New York, DC, and Chicago cops need guns.

That guns cause crime and that is why we see so many mass shootings at gun shows (right?).

Random factoid:

A Georgetown University-Duke University study conducted by Dr. Jenz Ludwig said that the only measurable effect of the Brady Bill was a slight decline in firearm suicides in the male population over 55. This was based on the assumption that the greatest reductions in fatal violence would be within states that were required to institute waiting periods and background checks, per the Brady Act.

Common Sense Moment

-
I suppose I will jump in and add my voice to the many already saying the obvious: if any of the students or faculty at V.T. had been allowed to defend themselves, much of the mayhem could have been stopped.

[[ The Second Amendment Foundation notes that firearms are used defensively an estimated 2.5 million times every year, four times more than criminal uses. This represents some 2,575 lives protected and saved for every life lost to a gun. According to the national Safety Council, the loss of life to accidental firearm death is at its lowest point since records were begun nearly a hundred years ago. ]]

Anyone who has looked into this subject would not be surprised at all to hear the above.

Please read it all... it's not very long, but it says a lot.

A Time For Prayer

-
Every time I think I have something to say about the V.T. killings... I think of the victims and their families... and then I shut up.

Sometimes, there are no words except those to God...

* * *

Give us, O Lord, a steadfast heart, which no unworthy affection may drag downwards; give us an unconquered heart, which no tribulation can wear out; give us an upright heart, which no unworthy purpose may tempt aside. Bestow upon us also, O Lord our God, understanding to know you, diligence to seek you, wisdom to find you, and a faithfulness that may finally embrace you; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

At Least They're Consistent

-
Ah, liberals... you have to love their simplistic approach to life:

Take the money from the rich guy and give it to the poor guy... don't let anyone speak freely (except for "protected minorities" and those "oppressed" by evil Conservatives)... draft lots and lots and lots of rules for how all the people should live and think... and, most importantly, if a thug or bully comes along and threatens you-- whether internationally or at the local school level-- then just bribe and appease him until he sees the wisdom of your enlightened ways.

Of course, none of this works at all-- as proven time and time again in history... but don't let that get in the way of your "enlightened" ideals.

[[ Difficult and disruptive pupils should be praised and given prizes to encourage them to behave, Government guidance said yesterday.

Follow The Money!

-
In a nice little update to THIS story I posted yesterday, we find that the plot has thickened.

[[ Two state lawmakers backing a controversial plan to buy iPods for every schoolchild in Michigan were among a group of politicians who made a trip to California that was paid for at least in part by Apple, the maker of iPods. ]]

Now, whether or not there is something fishy here is up for debate... as one watchdog group put it, "Michigan lobbyist disclosure laws are so anemic that it may never be possible to know" if there was foul play afoot. Still, if you believe in these kinds of coincidences, then you should not be allowed to vote and hold a bank account.

This is, in my estimation, one of the very best examples we could hope to see of the liberal elite and their socialist/utopian agenda. You see, their plans always involve them getting lots of "bennies" while they are out planning what is best for the rest of us. Just think of the elaborate dachas the Soviet elite lived in while the population remained in unthinkable squalor.

Anyway, here you go:

Giving Praise Where It Is Due

-
I will not be buying any "John McCain '08" bumper stickers anytime soon... but I do agree with the WSJ editorial here that gives kudos to the "maverick" Senator for his resolve on the war.

[[ These columns have had more than one disagreement with John McCain over the years, especially on issues that typically win the Arizona Republican accolades from the rest of the media: campaign-finance reform, global warming, detainee interrogations and tax cuts. Yet now that he is under attack from his erstwhile media "base" for refusing to repudiate the war in Iraq, we think he deserves some covering fire. The word for what he's demonstrating is character.

Presidential campaigns often have their defining media moments, for better or worse: Think of Teddy Kennedy's fumbling replies to Roger Mudd's Chappaquiddick questions in 1979, or George H. W. Bush shaking off the so-called wimp factor in his 1988 interview with Dan Rather. It's too soon to say if Mr. McCain's interview Sunday with Scott Pelley of CBS's "60 Minutes" will be equally defining. But it certainly illuminated the chasm that distinguishes Mr. McCain from the Beltway media that used to adore him.

The most revealing exchange came when Mr. Pelley, in all apparent seriousness, asked the Senator "at what point do you stop doing what you think is right and you start doing what the majority of the American people want?"

Answered Mr. McCain: "I disagree with what the majority of the American people want. I still believe the majority of the American people, when asked, say if you can show them a path to success . . . then they'll support it." Later Mr. Pelley observed that Mr. McCain was betting his entire campaign on the success of the current "surge" strategy in Baghdad. The Senator replied that he'd "rather lose a campaign than lose a war."
]]

I believe strongly that he means that... and I will always respect him for it-- as well as for his service in Vietnam, of course.

Please read the whole thing... it's not very long and is worth the time.

Have You Heard The Good News?

-
Then the angel said to the women in reply, "Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified.

He is not here, for He has been raised just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay.

Then go quickly and tell His disciples, 'He has been raised from the dead, and He is going before you to Galilee; there you will see Him.' Behold, I have told you."

Then they went away quickly from the tomb, fearful yet overjoyed, and ran to announce this to his disciples.

And behold, Jesus met them on their way and greeted them. They approached, embraced His feet, and did Him homage.

Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me."

They called him a liar and a villain, and screamed, "What about your swimming pools?" in regards to recent allegations that the monthly electricity bill of Gore's estate rivalled a year's bill for the average American home.

This led Gore to joke, "I don't even know if you guys are left- or right-wing".

Huh? That was a joke...? Wow, his humor must be as deep as his intellect... way too much for a low-brow like me.

That Has To Hurt!

-
When the absolute monarch of liberal newspapers turns on nancy pelosi, you know she stepped in it.

This one is suitable for framing... rare-- oh, so very, very rare. You may want to remember this one... for you shan't see its ilk again anytime soon.

Dr. Sowell On War

-
Wow, this is a great summation of the dumocrats' position/policies on the war. As usual, it is the eloquence of Thomas Sowell that makes the piece great.

Here is an absolute money line:

[[ It has been painfully clear that Pelosi was serious only about scoring political points. Her big grin when she won a narrow vote for a nonbinding resolution was grotesque against the background of a life-and-death issue.

You don't grin over a political ploy that you have pulled when men's lives are at stake.

Black Helicopters? What Black Helicopters?

-
If you do not believe that the liberal agenda is aimed squarely at controlling every bit of our lives and taking our money for their causes through taxes and schemes of all kinds, then this should help you come out of your denial.

[[ BRUSSELS, April 3 (RIA Novosti) - The government of Belgium's French-speaking region of Wallonia, which has a population of about 4 million, has approved a tax on barbequing, local media reported.

Experts said that between 50 and 100 grams of CO2, a so-called greenhouse gas, is emitted during barbequing. Beginning June 2007, residents of Wallonia will have to pay 20 euros for a grilling session.

The local authorities plan to monitor compliance with the new tax legislation from helicopters, whose thermal sensors will detect burning grills.

Scientists believe CO2 emissions are a major cause of global warming
. ]]

Please notice the casual closing statement. Not "some scientists believe..." No. It is just "scientists believe..."

Right... all of them agree with you... got it.

And now, let us step into the hypocrisy of it all, shall we? Did you take note of the fact that it is not being made illegal to barbeque... oh, no... but, if you want to do it, you will PAY. There is an amazing amount of simple truth in just that one thing.... "Follow the money," the wise man once said.

Thermal Sensors To Catch Rogue BBQ'ers

Also, please remember that almost everything that the pioneer liberals in Europe do, our own moonbats eventually try to emulate. That is a fact and there is absolutely no disputing it, by the way.

***** UPDATE *****

Looks like it might have been an April Fool's Day joke... and a good one, at that, if it was. I found it quite believeable.

An Old Master Speaks

-
William F. Buckley throws his two cents into the conversation on global warming. Of course, his two cents are more like two thousand cents. I do like his writing, though, because he uses words like "propitiation" and "ameliorative" in regular sentences. As a writer, I appreciate that.

Anyway, this is a very clear and only slightly sarcastic discussion on global warming by one of the elders of the modern Conservative movement.

Business of Global Warming Feels a Lot Like Inquisition

Well, It Was Only A Matter Of Time

-
The sad part is that for many of them, this is the truth of it. Politics is their religion, you see... and so this makes perfect sense to them.

This One Has It All

-
Here is your one-stop place for appeasement AND media bias-- all in one associated (with terrorists) press paragraph!

[[ Iran and Britain signaled possible movement toward ending the standoff over 15 detained British sailors Monday, with Tehran promising to stop airing video confessions and London saying it's willing to discuss ways to avoid boundary confusion in the Persian Gulf. ]]

You get that? The media is now sayng the captured hostages were merely "detained." You know, they weren't kidnapped during an act of war against Britain... no, they were only "detained" until they can clear up this sticky matter of "boudary confusion." That is how merry old England is going to capitulate to the mullahs, I suppose...

So very, very sad...

Anyway, I'm going to have to start writing my own headlines for these articles. Might as well, they stopped being news years ago.

I Was There!

-
Here is President Reagan's son, Michael (the sane one), with a great reminder of what Bubba did to our military.

I lived through the horror of being in the military while that socialist regime cut us down to the bone... all while sending us on more deployments than any other time in history. Deployments that suited the U.N., of course.

Big Ben Speaks

-
Here is the great Ben Stein with a hard and frightening look at another kind of terrorism.

I'm guilty of some of the things he says... and I agree that we need to find better ways to solve this incredibly, ridiculously bad problem.

It's a short piece... please read it and think about it (and, as always, share!).
