Fighting Back Against Anti-Christian Bigotry

-
From SAJ we get this outstanding article.

It will be interesting to see how the liberal courts respond now that Christians are starting to push back.

[[ The University of California system is being sued for alleged viewpoint and content discrimination against Christian school instruction and textbooks.

The Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), which represents more than 800 schools worldwide, has filed a federal lawsuit challenging a University of California policy that bars students taught from a conservative Christian viewpoint from being admitted to schools in the UC system. The suit accuses the university system of violating the free-speech rights of Christian students.

Wendell Bird, an attorney for ACSI, says UC admissions officials have told Christian schools that several courses taught from a Christian perspective -- subjects such as English, science, history, and social studies -- no longer qualify for credit. ]] (LINK to story)

I really think we need to enlist the aid of the aclu on this one. It's right up their alley, isn't it? I mean, what with the 1st Amendment and all... they should be breaking down the door to help the oppressed Christian students here... right?

I Never Woulda Thunk It...

-
...here is an "intellectual" that is actually pretty darn smart.

Frontpage has an absolutely fascinating and very thought provoking interview with Dr. Theodore Dalrymple, a contributing editor to City Journal and the author of his new collection of essays "Our Culture, What's Left of It: The Mandarins and the Masses."

It is a sweeping interview that briefly covers several subjects. Overall, you get the sense that this man does a lot of thinking... and most of it is right on the money. My favorite line was "...indecent silence."

On the subject of our overmedicated culture and depression:

[[ "I have noticed the disappearance of the word 'unhappy' from common usage, and its replacement by the word 'depressed.' While unhappiness is a state of mind that is clearly the result of the circumstances of one's life, whether self-inflicted or inflicted by circumstances beyond one's control, or a mixture of both, depression is an illness that is the doctor's responsibility to cure. This is so, however one happens to be leading one's life. And the doctor, enjoined to pass no judgement that could be interpreted as moral on his patients, has no option but to play along with this deception. The result is the gross over-prescription of medication, without any reduction in unhappiness." ]]

I would add that all of this takes away from the people who actually DO suffer from depression, etc. If everyone is "depressed", then it becomes far more a "regular" thing, and therefore is not taken as seriously as it should be. "What-- you're suffering from depression? Big deal... get in line with everyone else!"

This next one is very well said... on the topic of political correctness:

[[ "Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, nor to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil, and in some small way to become evil oneself. One's standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to." ]]

On liberal hypocrisy when it comes to embracing cultures like islamism, which is " the most fascistic women-hating, gay-hating, minority-hating and democracy hating force on the face of the earth..." It is noted that the liberals and the islamists have much in common, such as "they are miserable, hate life and see cheer and joy as a dangerous enemy." More on this topic:

[[ “Where two pieties – feminism and multi-culturalism – come into conflict, the only way of preserving both is an indecent silence.”

"I think the problem here is one of a desired self-image. Tolerance is the greatest moral virtue and broadmindedness the greatest intellectual one. Moreover, no decent person can be other than a feminist. People therefore want to be both multiculturalist and feminist. But multiculturalism and feminism obviously clash; therefore, you avoid the necessity to give up one or the other merely by disregarding the phenomena. How you feel about yourself is more important to you than the state of the world."
]]

This guy is on top of it. I need to read lots more of his stuff. Please read the whole interview- it covers a lot more than I've highlighted here.

Our Wayward Kids

-
It has not been lost on me that many liberals act very much like children. In fact, I would take the comparison much farther than just the casual notice. When one really looks at it, the similarities are astounding. In fact, the notion of a nation full of parents and children- with Conservatives being the parents and liberals the children- is not at all far fetched.

To begin with, we already know that Conservatives (hereafter called "parents") are the ones who make the money and make the country go (SEE this brilliant essay)- and liberals (hereafter called "children") are the ones who tax the parents and spend OPM (other people's money) like it was going out of style.

Furthermore, we know that parents understand the need for order and discipline, and children hate and resist rules and regulations at all cost- unless it is a rule that benefits the child or his childish plans. In our society, those kinds of "child rules" usually involve outlawing something that the parents have established and determined to be important- like order and discipline, or Christianity.

The fact that children try to resist parental authority is not news and is hardly alarming in and of itself. However, it becomes greatly alarming when the parents start letting the children get away with resisting authority and usurping order and discipline. When the child is allowed to throw public temper tantrums and demand things that are either dangerous or that just make absolutely no sense at all... well, then, we've come to a point where the parents are not doing much parenting.

That, sadly, is where we find ourselves now. We have been bad "parents" and our "children" are out of control.

Every since we let them throw that big party while we were out of town (see the sixties), things haven't been the same. We took our eye off the parental ball and they let in all the bad kids with no parents and no respect for our house. Our main mistake was, of course, letting them take their "rebellion" so seriously. We humored them and let them run around with the kids that we knew were bad news. We figured it was just a phase... kind of like sock hops and dragging main street. Turns out it was more like Satan came to dinner and never left.

Soon after, they began demanding dangerous and obscene privileges (see rampant & public sex, and abortion on demand- required because of the rampant sex thing). Now, they are holding their breath until they turn blue(er) (see Mother Moonbat, Cindy Sheehan). They are running through the house writing obscenities on the walls with markers (see hollywood). They are rebelling against their father by calling him names and trying to embarrass him in public (see Bush Derangement Syndrome from virtually every liberal in existence). They keep saying that "all of their friends are doing it" (see liberals' infatuation with Europeans). They constantly want those friends to come over and tell us how our household should be run (see john kerry wanting to bring the French "to the table." Also see "international law").

We could go on for days listing all of the naughty, harmful, and insane things that our "children" are involved with nowadays... but let's suffice it to say that they want to do literally anything and everything that comes into their id-controlled minds with absolutely no mention of consequences (see all liberals, everywhere). If we attempt to interfere with this perverted form of existence, they start hollering about us being repressive and oppressive and abusive... then they call the child protective services on us (see the aclu) .

Perhaps we need to reexamine our roles as "parents" to these "children". Since our real parental powers have been neutered by the town council (see out of control courts and liberal activist politicians), we will have to take small steps to regain control of our household. Fortunately, we've been making real progress since 1994... and it looks as if we can continue that trend, so long as we can keep a few things from further hurting us.

First, we have to invite more good relatives to the house and stop letting the crazy uncles come over (see McCain, Hagel, and other RINO's). They want so much to be the "cool uncles", that they have become overly-permissive and are contributing to the problem.

Next, we have to keep the bad kids with the porno videos from getting into the house all the time (see hollywood again). They are leaving lasting imprints of indecency in the minds and souls of our "children".

Finally, we need to get busy and drag these "children" to church on Sundays. If they don't want to come in, they can wait in the car and sit respectfully while we worship... but we have to stop them from sprayinggraffitii all over the church buildings and disrespecting the town's religious beliefs (see the aclu again).

Things are not as bad as they could be. The "children" do still- deep in their hearts and minds- know who the "parents" are. They still come running to us when they stub their toe (see liberals calling 911 when they are robbed), or when a scary storm is coming (see Walmart, et al responding to the hurricane ravaged Gulf Coast), or when the bad guys come over to the house to beat them up (see September 11th, 2001)... and, for sure, they come running to us whenever they or any of their friends need money (see U.S. tax code and welfare system).

Now, if we could only get them to make their beds and stop messing up the house so damn bad (see rampant crime, illegitimacy rates, frivolouss lawsuits, social chaos, etc.).

Almost makes you wish Daddy Dubya would just ground them all for life!

The Triumph Of The Iraqi Constitution

-
I, of course, appreciate the positive tone of this piece from The American Thinker...

[[ Surprise! The Washington Post is "disappointed" by the Constitution just drafted by the elected Iraqi Constitutional Assembly. The Arab League is tisk-tisking, but all its members are despotic criminocracies, so that doesn't mean a lot. And our friends the Europeans are skeptical, fresh from their own triumphant experiment in constitutional lawmaking.

In fact, the Iraqi Constitution is a much more serious and democratic document than the EU Constitution, which was turned down with a massive sneer by the French voters just a few months ago. For one thing, it is clear and understandable to anybody with a high school education. It is about 25 pages long. The European Constitution was 400 pages, and its main author warned that it should not be send to the voters because they could not possibly understand it.

Fortunately, you don't have to listen to the obsessive naysayers carping about Iraq's steady progress to democracy. Just read the draft Constitution yourself. To me, it is just thrilling.

Listen to these words:

"We, the children of Mesopotamia, land of the prophets, resting place of the holy imams, the founders of civilization and the creators of the alphabet, the cradle of arithmetic: On our land, the first law put in place by mankind was written; in our nation, the most noble era of justice in the politics of nations was laid down; on our soil, the followers of the prophet and the saints prayed; the philosophers and the scientists thought and the writers and prophets created."

No, theirs is not the US Constitution - but the spirit of Jefferson, Madison, and Washington is alive throughout this remarkable document. The Iraqi draft Constitution does attempt to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility and so on, just like the US Constitution did two hundred years ago. It does so in an Iraqi context, with due regard to Islam and the agonizing history of that country, but its ideas are steeped in the Enlightenment, the very same intellectual atmosphere in which the US Founders flourished. The opening words "We, the children of Mesopotamia..." calls to mind "We, the people of the United States..." ]] (LINK to positive story)

Achtung! More European Enlightenment

-
Ah, the Germans... these are some of the people john kerry wanted to "bring to the table"... once can only assume what accoutrements they would have brought with them to the table.

This really helps sharpen the contrast between what old Europe is becoming and what America still is. We are not yet locked in on the same course as them... as long as we can keep holding the line and building the education of more normal Americans, we will never succumb to this (San Francisco excluded, of course).

[[ Berlin Mayor Under Fire For Fetish Party

The mayor, who publicly declared his homosexuality before his election in 2001, has come under fire for the official greetings in his name included in the program of the whips-and-chains festival starting Friday.

"Berlin is a tolerant and open metropolis. We are proud that people from different backgrounds and with different preferences feel comfortable here and party together... (Parties like Folsom Europe) allow the scene to present itself openly and break down skepticism and prejudice."

Bild printed advertisements for the festival featuring bare-chested men licking each others' jackboots and a man chained to a urinal and wearing leather briefs, boots and a gas mask under the heading "Perverts".

On the opposite page, the newspaper splashed a photograph from last year's party featuring a dog-collared sex slave kneeling before his leather-clad master.

"There's no question it is a flamboyant scene, but that is also Berlin. And as long as there is nothing forbidden happening, I expect tolerance," Wowereit told Bild.

France: "We'll Save The World"

-
Never let it be said that the French are not on the cutting edge of socialism and out of control taxation. This newest plan, though, is a real doozy... even for them.

[[ France plans to put a tax on airline tickets next year to finance efforts against poverty and disease in the developing world, President Jacques Chirac said Monday.

"Without waiting, I asked the government to start the procedures necessary to put such a levy in place next year," Chirac told French ambassadors gathered in Paris.
]]

Yes, by all means, do it "without waiting"... thinking it through and debating both sides of the issue is strictly stupid American cowboyism. Just leap at the behest of your heart... Never mind the bleating of the naysayers- they obviously want the little children to suffer:

[[ The International Air Transport Association, which represents 265 airlines, has been deeply critical of the proposal. The association has said targeting airline tickets will hurt tourism — a main source of revenue in many developing countries.

"Common sense says if you want to help the developing world, you do not discourage people from traveling there," IATA spokesman Anthony Concil said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.

John Bolton: A Great American And A True Pistol

-
This guy hit the ground running at the United Nothing, and has not stopped yet. As you might expect, the old media is continuing its jihad against him. Here's a nice beginning to an editorial in the la la times, titled "Bolton's Mischief" (now, isn't that nice?):

[[ AFTER A YEAR AND A HALF of studies and negotiations, the United Nations recently came up with a draft proposal calling for extensive internal reforms and world action against injustice, poverty and environmental catastrophe. Last week, soon after being appointed U.N. ambassador by President Bush, John Bolton may have sabotaged the entire effort.

Now that's getting things done.
]]

Actually, it IS getting things done- namely, stopping the corruption that has run rampant for so long now. He is doing EXACTLY what our UN ambassador is supposed to do- he is looking out for America's best interests... which almost always winds up being the world's best interests, too.

[[ Bolton has introduced hundreds of amendments to the 62-page draft, which is supposed to be signed by the leaders of 175 nations during the U.N.'s 60th anniversary summit starting Sept. 14. Other nations, notably Russia, also have objections to the draft proposal and have submitted their own amendments, but they haven't caused the same turmoil.

Bolton's amendments focus on cutting references to international efforts the U.S. has opposed, such as the International Criminal Court, while strengthening sections on spreading democracy, freeing markets and fighting terrorism.
]]

The rest goes on to say the usual stuff: how America wants global poverty to increase... how America is "lagging" behind in global aid (yeah... it actually says that!)... etc.

Go read it, if you like. ( LINK)

As a teacher, if I were ever faced with a Beslan Scenario, I would take a bullet for one of my kids in a heartbeat. I’ve lived the better part of my life and found a second one in the Body of Christ, whereas most of my first-graders have just started living, if you know what I mean. I think it would surprise many people that there is at least a small minority of teachers in both public and private schools who feel the same way I do. The best teachers do, at any rate.

I checked this blogger’s posted sources, and they’re good.

How It All Started

-
Did you ever wonder how the whole Conservative vs liberal thing started... where we all came from and all that? Well, thanks to SAJ, we now know!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

History began some 12,000 years ago. Humans existed as members of small bands of nomadic hunter/gatherers. They lived on deer in the mountains during the winter and would go to the coast to live on fish and lobster in the summer. The two most important events in all of history were the invention of Beer and the invention of the wheel. The wheel was invented to get man to the beer.

These were the foundations of modern civilization, and together were the catalyst for the splitting of humanity into two distinct subgroups: Liberals and Conservatives.

Once beer was discovered, it required grain, and that was the beginning of agriculture. Neither the glass bottle nor aluminum can were invented yet, so while our early human ancestors were sitting around waiting for them to be invented, they just stayed close to the brewery. That's how villages were formed.

Some men spent their days tracking and killing animals to B-B-Q at night while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of what is known as "the Conservative movement."

Other men who were weaker and less skilled at hunting, learned to live off the Conservatives by showing up for the nightly B-B-Q's and doing the sewing, fetching and hair dressing. This was the beginning of the liberal movement. Some of these liberal men eventually evolved into women. The rest became known as "girly men."

Some noteworthy liberal achievements include the domestication of cats, the invention of group therapy and group hugs, and the concept of Democratic voting to decide how to divide the meat and beer that Conservatives provided.

Over the years, Conservatives came to be symbolized by the largest, most powerful land animal on earth, the elephant. Liberals are symbolized by the jackass.

Modern liberals like imported beer (with lime added), but most prefer white wine or imported bottled water. They eat raw fish but like their beef well done. Sushi, tofu, and French food are standard liberal fare.

Another interesting evolutionary side note: most liberal women have higher testosterone levels than their men. Most social workers, personal injury attorneys, journalists, dreamers in Hollywood and group therapists are liberals.

Liberals invented the designated hitter rule because it wasn't "fair" to make the pitcher also bat.

Conservatives drink domestic beer. They eat red meat and still provide for their women. Conservatives are big-game hunters, rodeo cowboys, lumberjacks, construction workers, firemen, medical doctors, police officers, corporate executives, soldiers, athletes, and generally, anyone who works productively outside government. Conservatives who own companies hire other Conservatives who want to work for a living.

Liberals produce little or nothing. They like to "govern" the producers and decide what to do with the production! Liberals believe Europeans are more enlightened than Americans. That is why most of the liberals remained in Europe when Conservatives were coming to America. They crept in after the Wild West was tamed and created a business of trying to get MORE for nothing.

Here ends today's lesson in world history. Now you know everything.

Cindy Sheehan - Truths Behind The Propaganda

-
Well, now that the real Americans have arrived in Crawford to challenge DFL celebrity and noted nutjob Cindy Sheehan's insane "protest"; we are starting to see more and more cracks in the impressive armor that has been built around her by the seditionist groups and the complicit old media.

As predicted here and elsewhere, more media outlets are being forced to reexamine the coverage of this debacle... and the result is that we are seeing small pieces of truth starting to leak out.

From The Rocky Mountain News:

[[ Cindy Sheehan claims the media are "a propaganda tool for the government." A New York Post editorial (Aug. 16) argued that Sheehan's statement was self-evidently false, given the overwhelming and almost exclusively positive media attention paid to her in the last several weeks. But in a broader sense, Sheehan has a point: Almost all the news stories and columns in Denver dailies, like the vast majority of the rest of the mainstream media, have failed to inform their readers about what Sheehan really thinks.

For example, on Aug. 16, Sheehan held a media conference call during which she declared "The person who killed my son, I have no animosity for that person at all." Yet her statement was reported only in the National Review Online weblog. In an interview with Mark Knoller of CBS News, she explained that the foreigners who have to come to Iraq to battle the U.S. military are "freedom fighters." (Video at the anti-war Web site dc.indymedia. org/usermedia/video/2/cindyon bus.mov). Conversely, she described last January's vote in Iraq as a "sham election," in her Tuesday entry on her weblog on Michael Moore's Web site (http:// michaelmoore.com/mustread/ index.php?id=465).

Sheehan has explained that the real global terrorist problem is the United States. Speaking at San Francisco State University on April 27, she announced, "The biggest terrorist in the world is George W. Bush." Rebuking people (such as the Post editors who created the "Portraits of Valor" series) who claim that serving in the military is patriotic, she stated: "I'm going all over this country telling moms: 'This country is not worth dying for.' " She denounced the idea that soldiers should "defend this morally repugnant system we have."

Of course, I put together a nice compilation of crazy Cindy's rantings a while back. (LINK to Cindy Sheehan's Greatest Hits)

Additionally, the wonderful group "American Gold Star Mothers" is loudly disavowing any connection to nutty old Cindy:

[[ (Cindy Sheehan) is not a member of the official organization, and the American Gold Star Mothers wants the public to know that.

The Web site of American Gold Star Mothers states: “Cindy Sheehan is currently in the news. She and her organization have no connection whatever with American Gold Star Mothers Inc. We ... do not engage in political activities. We do support our troops. After all, they are our children.”
]] (LINK)

With all of this, you would think that the media would just call it a wrap and move on to the next Bush-bashing opportunity... after all ,this one has surely been mined out, right? Well... I'm not going to count on it. I think they'll stay on this teat until someone drags them away, kicking and screaming. Come to think of it... that is exactly what is starting to happen!

A Leadership Example

-
A bit more than a decade ago, I had the distinct pleasure of serving with a Marine Corps officer who stood head and shoulders above his peers. This man was the single best officer I have ever known- bar none.

Although I have not seen him for a very long time, I made a commitment to honor him and tell people about him whenever I got the chance. So... here's an essay, inspired by him, that I wrote some time ago.

--------------------------------------------

A LEADERSHIP EXAMPLE
By kmg

"Come on, you S.O.B.'s! Do you want to live forever?" These celebrated words are credited to Dan Daly at Belleau Wood and are an illustration of leadership- the art of influencing people. The direction that the Marine Corps takes always has depended on its leadership. Nothing- not beans, bullets, or band-aids- can have a more profound effect on the functioning of our Corps than does leadership. Leadership is not some esoteric concept for us to philosophize about; it is a very real, almost tangible characteristic that we like to think is inherent in every Marine Corps NCO, staff NCO, and officer. Before seriously discussing new directions and new frontiers for the Corps, it is essential to know that our foundation is still solid. Leadership is our foundation.

In these days of Total Quality Leadership, focus on leadership is as tight as it has ever been; but are today's leaders still able to influence their Marines? Most of us would like to think that our leadership methods could compare favorably with those typified in our colorful history. Generally speaking, it is sometimes hard to tell who is leading and who is managing (a good leader should do a lot of the former and a bit of the latter). Certain leaders, though, leave no doubts about what they are doing. They carry themselves with an almost visible sense of purpose. Their Marines follow them because they want to. A sincerely and perpetually energetic, purposeful leader will positively influence the thoughts, motivations, and actions of his juniors. All the more so when he consistently shows very real concern for the welfare of his Marines and the welfare of people in general.

Who among us can be accurately described as this type of leader? How many of us have encountered a leader like this? We Marines fortunate enough to have served with Lieutenant Colonel Harry Murdock can say, with complete honesty, that we have met such a leader. It is against examples like his that we all should measure ourselves.

My personal experience with LtCol Murdock extends only to his last tour of duty: Commanding Officer of Marine Combat Training (MCT) Battalion, School of Infantry, Camp Pendleton. During this period, I was assigned as the Chief Instructor for Tactics at MCT Bn. As such, I had daily contact with LtCol Murdock, both in the field and in the rear. Over the course of the year and a half that I served under LtCol Murdock, I became aware that I was learning from him. Not through classroom lecture, but through his example... I was being influenced.

For the record, the related experiences of others who knew the Colonel before MCT all tell of the same kind of Marine: a true leader. To quantify his methods (and our own), let us look to the fourteen venerable Leadership Traits as a barometer.

Knowledge: First and foremost, LtCol Murdock was a grunt. His knowledge of his craft was tremendous- from the job skills of a fireteam leader to battalion and regimental level operations. Many a Staff NCO was surprised (and more than a little impressed) by the Colonel's ability to relate to, and converse about, the intricacies of the 0300's job. He knew what he knew not because he had done it all, but because he took the time to learn all he could about his job and the jobs of his Marines.

Enthusiasm: This is a vitally important area where many leaders fail. It is difficult for most human beings to be always "up"- to have always real energy for their work. LtCol Murdock displayed prodigious, consistent, and sincere enthusiasm... ALWAYS. Whether conducting a staff meeting, speaking at a graduation, or relating one-on-one with a Marine, LtCol Murdock exuded a contagious energy that infected all in attendance. Nothing about his life was boring to the Colonel and it showed.

Initiative: LtCol Murdock quite simply did what had to be done when it had to be done. A good example of his initiative is the Close Combat Instructor (CCI) course. MCT Bn received one quota for the first ever Close Combat Instructor Trainer (CCIT) course at MCCDC Quantico. Where other commanders felt that it was an unnecessary expenditure of funds and time, LtCol Murdock sent one of our tactics instructors to the CCIT course. When that Marine returned from Quantico with tales of possible new policies regarding Close Combat training, LtCol Murdock explored the issue at length. The Marine showed the Colonel what he had learned at Quantico and explained how he could set up a five day course right there at MCT to train all the Troop Leaders and Instructors in proper Close Combat techniques. The Colonel decided that it was outstanding training, whether compulsory or not, and directed the Marine to proceed. Word of the course soon got out to the Fleet Marine Force, and units from SRIG to Combat Engineers to 1st Marines began calling us and requesting quotas for the CCI course. After several months and over one hundred certified Close Combat Instructors (one of which was LtCol Murdock himself!), it was decided that the course would move up to Advanced Infantry Training Company and be made an official part of the School of Infantry's curriculum. It is in this very course that all Infantry Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant Course students were soon trained at Camp Pendleton. Remember that LtCol Murdock operated this course at his Battalion for over six months without external support of any kind. That is initiative at the Battalion level.

Endurance: A Marine over forty years of age with an average PFT score above 290. A Battalion Commander who spent as much time in the field with his Marines as did most Staff NCO's, while managing the administrative load of almost two hundred permanent personnel and as many as two thousand students per week. The Colonel never appeared to his Marines frazzled or under pressure.

Judgment: When do you change a policy or modify some aspect of a course of instruction? Which Company Commander has the best idea for a standardized Battalion Field Exercise? How best to train thousands of entry level Marines with an ever dwindling T/O and T/E? The Colonel always had to choose the answer that best fit his Battalion, and in my opinion he usually chose the correct way. Even when I or other Marines disagreed with one of his decisions, we could see his reasoning. He never made arbitrary decisions and he always sought out the advice of the Marines who would be effected by his decision. LtCol Murdock possessed a level of personal and professional judgment that most Marines, myself included, can only dream of.

Justice: Everyone in MCT Battalion got what they deserved. Whether it was Non-Judicial Punishment (NJP) or a Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal- if the Marine deserved it, he got it. Before LtCol Murdock's arrival at MCT, it was a common policy that a Marine would get an award only at the end of his tour. Upon learning of this policy, LtCol Murdock proceeded to change it. He believed that a Marine should be rewarded soon after the commendable action, not two or three years later. Before long, Marines at MCT were being recognized for outstanding achievement on a fairly routine basis- and that greatly increased morale and, subsequently, performance. Sometimes it's nice to be noticed. On the other side of justice: when punishment had to be administered, LtCol Murdock never shied away. He did, though, take it very personally. On one occasion, a newly promoted sergeant who worked for me was brought up for NJP for a petty crime. This NCO was married with two very young children. He admitted to the offense and the Colonel punished him. As he was asking me for my input on the punishment (yes, he did), the Colonel made it clear that it hurt him very much to have to do this to an otherwise excellent Marine. But he did it... the Marine was reduced in grade and received a hefty fine (most of which was suspended).

Decisiveness: See "judgment" above, and add to it that LtCol Murdock's decisions were always made on time (i.e., before deadlines, etc.). There was no moss growing on the Colonel.

Integrity: An honest approach to life and visible sincerity... you always knew where you stood with LtCol Murdock- and where he stood with you. An officer with an outgoing, friendly personality who genuinely liked people and disliked conflict; the Colonel would, nonetheless, tell you when you screwed up (or when he did).

Bearing: LtCol Murdock set the example with his superb personal appearance and military bearing. A focused Marine who always behaved proportionally to his station.

Tact: See "Integrity" above. LtCol Murdock knew that integrity was paramount to tact. Sincerity mixed with straightforwardness... he communicated well.

Although I could list numerous cases where the final four Leadership Traits- Courage, Dependability, Loyalty, and Unselfishness- apply, they are best illustrated in one inclusive (and ultimate) example.

In January of 1995, Camp Pendleton was experiencing the same horrendous flooding that was ravaging most of the state of California. At the School of Infantry, entry level Marines learning the ways of the Grunt continued to train, albeit at a somewhat degraded level of effectiveness.

One platoon of young Marines became stranded on the wrong side of a flooding stream and could not get back to the Battalion area. The Colonel went out with the Sergeant Major to reassure the young Marines from across the raging current. While assessing the situation and trying to find a spot for the platoon to cross, LtCol Murdock was swept away by the swollen creek. The Colonel was found dead several hours later.

This was not the first time the Colonel was out checking on the welfare of his Marines. Not by a long shot... Semper Fidelis was more than just a saying to him. I honestly believe that he cared for and worried about his Marines almost as much as he did for the two young sons he left behind.

The legacy and lesson the Colonel leaves are those every professional Marine should take to heart and live by:

"Take care of your Marines and the mission will be accomplished."

Another lesson the Colonel seems to be teaching me even now is that our foundation of leadership is, indeed, still solid... where he existed, there can exist others. Leaders are raised, not born; and with the right examples, many can step forward to lead the Corps to new heights.

Make no mistake about it, though, Marines the caliber of my former Battalion Commander are truly rare; and if this seems as much a tribute to the Colonel as a discussion of leadership, then I have accomplished my task. It would be good for me to think that I could give something back to him.

Speaking for myself, and for many other Marines as well, I can say that I have never met, served with, or even heard of another senior officer who so brilliantly displayed all that is right with leadership as did LtCol HARRY M. MURDOCK, USMC.

Semper Fi, Sir... your Corps is still in good hands!

aclu: Enemy Of The State IV

-
In this installment, the seditionists are worried about the success of the Minutemen... and have decided to "keep an eye" on them.

[[ The American Civil Liberties Union on Saturday began training observers in El Paso to watch Minutemen as they patrol for undocumented immigrants trying to sneak into the country.

The ACLU will deploy volunteers in clearly marked shirts to ensure that civil and human rights are not violated. Organizers for Minutemen in Texas and New Mexico have said they will begin patrols in October.

"When you go and you actually talk to them, you'll see that the underlying reason they're here is not because of immigration or drugs, but because this country is changing," said Claudia Guevara, a coordinator from Los Angeles for ACLU's Legal Observer program.
]]

Hmmm... now what do you suppose she means by "because this country is changing..."? I guess she is trying to say that people have started to wake up and that is a very bad thing for the aclu.

Since "peaceful protest" is out of the question, the only thing they can do is spy on the Minutemen.

[[ "There has to be a peaceful response to this Minutemen situation, and it's not going to be through protest, of course," said Paul Barraza, 37, a real estate broker from El Paso. ]] (LINK to story)

You know... since these awesome good guys call themselves the "Minutemen", then the "clearly marked shirts" that the aclu people are going to wear should be red. That would complete the symbolism of the American Revolution. In a big way, the aclu is the oppressive force that the Red Coats were back then... and that force is exactly what all of us normal folks are fighting now.

Finally, the good people could take no more. Finally visible is the outrage that has been burning in all of us since Cindy Sheehan and her traveling revue of anti-Americanism started their disgusting and treasonous spectacle in Crawford. It is unlikely that the old media will be able to ignore it this time. Oh, they'll try... but it is going to be very difficult.

[[ President Bush's supporters poured into Crawford Saturday by the thousands, for the first time outnumbering war protesters led by Cindy Sheehan, who began a vigil here three weeks ago, demanding a personal meeting with the vacationing president to talk about her son's death in Iraq.

An estimated 3,000 to 4,000 people attended a pro-Bush rally in Crawford, waving flags and pledging their allegiance to U.S. troops. At times, they accused Cindy Sheehan of dishonoring the war death of her own son, Casey, who was in the Army.

Jeannine McEwin, 69, said she and her husband, Harold, made the six-hour trip from their home on Toledo Bend Lake, a mile from the Louisiana border, to help conservatives overcome the dominance anti-war demonstrators have had here since Sheehan came to town on Aug. 6.

[[ The nearly weeklong search for a Grammy-nominated producer ended Friday after a resident spotted the man sitting naked in a backyard creek, washing his jeans.

The Topanga Canyon resident found a distraught Christian Julian Irwin saying he feared he was being pursued by Nigerians who had contacted him in an Internet scam, sheriff's Capt. Ray Peavy said. ]] (LINK to wacky story)

Then, there's the strange case of the extravaganza of a send-off for Hunter S. Thompson. The moonbats and the New (Old) York Times are in rare form here.

[[ Worshippers of the wild and dissolute drug culture of the 1960s gathered at their temple in Woody Creek, Colo., on an August Saturday night to pay tribute to the booze-and-drug-soaked journalistic legend Hunter S. Thompson, exactly six months after he shot himself in the head in the middle of a phone call with his wife. It was, in a way, a perfect ending to symbolize Thompson's self-absorbed, self-destructive worldview. How pathetic is it that some people are actually celebrating this?

The next time you hear the biggest hearts in Hollywood railing against how the government or corporations waste millions of dollars on their "toys" rather than helping the poor, think of the Hunter Thompson memorial service. Actor Johnny Depp spent a reported $2 million constructing a giant tower (taller than the Statue of Liberty) to shoot Thompson's ashes into the sky with some very loud fireworks. The New York Times described it as "a rocket-like structure embedded with a dagger. It was crowned by Mr. Thompson's logo, a two-and-a-half-ton red fist with two thumbs and a psychedelic peyote button pulsating at its center, a Day-Glo sight visible for miles around." The Times respectfully called it the "complete canonization of Mr. Thompson."

Thompson devotees swarmed the area from across the country but were not allowed near the party. It didn't stop them from hailing Thompson as a prophet. "It's a pilgrimage of sorts," said one man who flew in from Wisconsin in a tuxedo he'd worn for four days straight. "This is the wailing wall of the freak kingdom."
]] (LINK to more wackiness)

Well, it's hard to argue with that... especially when the guy saying it is in a very ripe tuxedo. Also, remember that they've never been held accountable when it comes to their hypocrisy on how they spend their millions, compared to how "rich, white, Republicans" spend theirs.

Hamas To Bush: "F- You!"

-
President Bush is saying all the right things about the Gaza issue. I think he is handling it very well for now... and statements like he made today are exactly what the world needs to hear from a leader.

[[ President George W. Bush demanded on Saturday that the Palestinians respond to the Israeli pullout from Gaza and portions of the West Bank by cracking down on terrorism. ]]

The President continued- reminding everyone that terrorism MUST be stopped.

[[ "Now that Israel has withdrawn, the way forward is clear. The Palestinians must show the world that they will fight terrorism and govern in a peaceful way," Bush said.

"We demand an end to terrorism and violence in every form because we know that progress depends on ending terror," Bush added in his weekly radio address. ]]

The palestinians, reacting to the President's honest and sincere words, immediately renounced terrorism, dismantled Hamas and Islamic Jihad, and promised the world that they will make the most of this chance for peace.

Just kidding...

[[ It was Bush's most direct call for the Palestinians to act against militants since the withdrawal, and the Islamic militant group Hamas responded with defiance by saying it was committed "to the arms of resistance."

Sami Abu Zuhri, spokesman for Hamas, told Reuters Bush's statement was "evidence of the American bias to the Israeli occupation and represents hostility toward the Palestinian people."

"Palestinian resistance is an internal Palestinian affair and Bush ... should stop intervening in Palestinian affairs and should stop exerting pressure that only aims to cause strife among the Palestinian people," he added. ]]

Umm... yeah... I can see how calling for an end to terrorism represents "hostility toward the palestinian people"... I guess giving up terrorism would cause "strife" for them... after all, it is THE national industry of the palestinians.

"There Are Different Truths"

-
That absurd statement came from an official at Diablo Valley College in northern California in response to a challenge from investigative reporter, Lee Kaplan. Mr. Kaplan had taken a course on Middle East politics, taught by a muslim imam who spouted the usual lies and plo propaganda throughout the entire course.

The true absurdity of these "academics" is in their own ignorance. Consider this- after being told by the official that having the imam teach the class "offered a broader education" to students, Mr. Kaplan, no doubt with a herculean effort to keep his eyes in their sockets, continued on:

[[ I found this line of argument unpersuasive. “Araim,” I noted, “taught students in the class that Jews and Christians are not persecuted in the Arab countries of the Middle East. He also told the class that women are not stoned in Iran.” I asked Vice President Murillo whether she was aware that this was a common practice in Islamic countries. She replied she had not heard about such things.

I was taken aback by that response. After all, she was responsible for the course content. “These things are reported about constantly in the newspapers,” I said. “I don’t mean to be offensive, but I’m appalled that as an academic responsible for choosing what is taught about the Middle East, and who is responsible over the faculty to teach that, that you are unaware of such things.” Murillo was unmoved. “There are lots of things in the newspaper,” she replied
. ]]

See? Mr. Kaplan was "taken aback" by her response. That is how many of us normal people react to these people... we have to learn to get over our surprise at their outlandish worldviews- that is the first step to squashing those views once and for all.

The whole thing is similarly mind numbing.

Small Steps To "Half-Full"

-
Remember the old westerns where the Indian guide would put his ear to the ground and listen very closely for a time... then would announce something like this: "Thirty horses coming- maybe four hours away..."?

If you listen closely like that, you can get a hint of the changes in the Middle East. My sunny optimism allows me to find and correctly interpret positive signs... like this one:

[[ Islamic fundamentalists have been soundly beaten in local elections in Pakistan, a result hailed yesterday by President Musharraf as a “defeat for the extremists”. ]]

Okay, Fidel, It's Our Fault

-
As ridiculous as this is, the truly ridiculous thing is that many American liberals will agree with the dictator on this insanity. Still, it is nice to have him once again show us his true colors.

[[ Cuban leader Fidel Castro claimed Friday that U.S. policies were responsible for the latest tragedy to befall Cubans trying to reach American shores -- 31 people believed killed in the Florida Straits.

President Fidel Castro appeared on state-run television to point the finger at an American law that allows Cubans to apply for permanent residency if they reach the U.S., saying it encourages dangerous, illegal migration. ]]

Hmmm... maybe YOU should stop making it dangerous and illegal, Fidel... whaddaya think??

More Death Pill News

-
Is it surprising that another word for "left" is "sinister"?

Here we have ted kennedy championing the rush to market of the over the counter abortion pill. Never mind that the FDA is at least trying to figure out a way to keep it out of the hands of children... the DFL just wants it in the stores NOW!

The CEO of the company that makes the death pills is upset with the delays from the FDA... and manages to be ironic, apparently without even knowing it.

[[ "It's like being in purgatory," said Barr chief executive Bruce Downey. ]]

Purgatory... yeah, buddy... you're going to be getting a lot worse than that for being a part of this abomination.

I love the semantics they use now to keep from calling these evil pills what they are.

[[ "I am disappointed that FDA waited until this late hour to address a legal question that could and should have been resolved months ago," said Sen. edward kennedy, D-Mass. "I urge FDA to act quickly to approve this needed reproductive option for women." ]]

"Reproductive option." I also love "emergency contraception." Here's another one from hillary:

[[ "It is a breach of faith," Sens. patty murray, D-Wash., and hillary rodham clinton, D-N.Y., who lifted objections to Crawford assuming leadership of FDA only after his pledge, wrote in a statement. "There is no credible scientific reason to continue to deny increased access to this safe health care option." ]]

Now it's a "health care option." See... "option" equals "choice"... and "choice" is the catch word.

What ghouls these people are. Soulless ghouls and monsters.

Here's the whole story, if you're so inclined. (LINK)

Follow The Liberal Money

Who is handling all of the "logistical" concerns at Camp Treason in Crawford? How about all the press releases and media appearances? How does this one, lone woman keep it all together like this?

Answer? The usual gang of traitors and demons. (ViaDrudge)

[[ Organizers are set up in a house trailer. Their meetings closed to reporters.

Leading the group is Fenton Communications employee, Michele Mulkey, based in San Francisco. Fenton specializes in public relations for liberal non-profits.

Their bills are being paid for by True Majority, a non-profit set up by Ben Cohen -- of Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream fame.

Ben Cohen, True Majority: "People are willing to listen to her and we want to do as much as we can to make her voice heard."

Cohen's group has teamed up with Berkeley based MoveOn.org, an anti-Bush group co-founded by Joan Blades.

Earlier this month, MoveOn helped organize anti-war vigils in support of Cindy Sheehan.

Current Democratic National Party Chair Howard Dean's organization Democracy for America is also involved, as is the more radical anti-war group Code Pink organized by San Francisco's Medea Benjamin.

I read Michael Yon's posting "Gates of Fire" last night... and it was amazing. I was telling my family about it and planned to post on it today. Then, Tsar sent me a link to it, so here it is- absolutely gripping account of some of our guys on the ground in Iraq.

Baby Killers Ahead In Russia

-
Now this is the kind of story that will warm the hearts of abortionists everywhere. Finally, a country willing to admit that it's better to kill babies than to keep them! You just know that NARAL, NOW, and Planned No-Parenthood are salivating at this... now they have a role model!

We won't even mention the political slant this writer has- as evidenced by the opening sentence.

[[ Russians, whose lives are shorter and poorer than they were under communism, have more abortions than births to avoid the costs of raising children... ]]

I don't know how much more of this sort of thing God can stand... but it doesn't look good.
